Legislator Hardwick supports purchase of AEDs
for City of Tonawanda pool, park

(Grand Island, NY) – Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick announces that $1,500 has been budgeted to purchase AED machines for two popular spots in the City of Tonawanda, ensuring these life-saving devices are readily available in case of an emergency. The Legislature approved the funding at the Dec. 6, 2016 annual budget meeting.

“When the City Clerk told me that there were no AEDs for Kohler Pool and the Niawanda Pavilion, I knew that I had to find the money somewhere.  Fortunately, we were able to secure it in this year’s county budget,” said Legislator Hardwick.

“It was fortuitous that Legislator Hardwick came into City Hall the day I realized we didn’t have AEDs and he immediately stepped up and found a way to help. It will be a relief knowing we have these devices on hand should we ever need to use them. We are extremely grateful that he was able to prioritize this funding in next year’s county budget,” said Gayle Syposs, Clerk of the City of Tonawanda.

In addition, Legislator Hardwick secured $1,500 for the annual City of Tonawanda Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Banquet.

”The City of Tonawanda is blessed to have so many citizens willing to give so much of their time as volunteer firefighters and fire police.  They save the city a ton of money every year.  More importantly, they have saved many lives.  We can never thank them enough for their many sacrifices.  But this dinner will show them they are appreciated.”

“Due to budget constraints, we have been unable to host the Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Banquet in recent years so this funding is much appreciated. I believe that thanking the volunteer staff for all their efforts in providing services to keep our community safe is important. We have many members that go above and beyond and this is the least we can do to show our appreciation,” said Fire Chief Charles B. Stuart.

The additional funding was added into the 2017 budget without increasing overall spending in the next fiscal year. In fact, the property tax rate will decrease for the third consecutive year.
